Initial Consultation

Before we begin working together I offer a free initial telephone consultation. This informal chat usually lasts about 15-30 minutes and it will give us the opportunity to find out more about each other. It also gives you the chance to find out more about counselling and psychotherapy. At the end of the call, we can decide what you would like to do.

My Approach

I practise person-centred integrative therapy. Person- centred therapists take a non-authoritative approach to their client work; this means clients take the lead in deciding what we discuss in session and they determine their own pace. You can expect me to be consistent and committed to listening, engaging and being open and responsive, so we can establish a trusting relationship. I will always remain non-judgemental, empathetic, honest, boundaried and professional. Ultimately this way of working leads to my clients developing an understanding of their emotions, beliefs and behaviours. Over time their new-found self-discovery and increased self- awareness coupled with acceptance leads to change.

Integrative Counselling

The integrative approach to therapy is rooted in working with the uniqueness of every client. Integrative therapists believe there is not one therapeutic approach which can help all clients in all situations. Sometimes I work with unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours and sometimes specific events such as bereavement, redundancy or divorce are at the heart of my clients pain and sometimes more general problems such as navigating friendships or work related issues. We would work together using a variety of therapeutic approaches to make a bespoke plan. This will always include talking therapy and may include somatic therapy; which means therapies which help regulate your nervous system. techniques using cognitive behavioural therapy, art, journalling and in some cases hypnotherapy where appropriate. All integrated therapies are agreed with my client’s and regular reviews ensure therapy is optimised, highly personalised and holistic.

Before we can begin hypnotherapy, we will also have an initial free 15-20 minute telephone consultation. This will give me a chance to find out more about you and also give me an opportunity to answer any questions or concerns you may have about hypnotherapy. I use a combination of talking therapy and hypnotherapy in my practice. Hypnotherapy is a deeply relaxing guided journey with a specific aim or purpose. My sessions are pre-planned and agreed with my clients. The first appointment is used to understand the context of the problem and to give the client a brief experience of hypnosis. Follow-up appointments proceed with a planned session using hypnosis. Alternatively a simple short hypnosis for relaxation can be integrated into a talking therapy session where appropriate.
